Source: Epix Producing San Jose Sharks Stadium Series Program

Sources have told ESPN that the cable company Epix will be producing a 4 episode 24/7 type series for the Winter Classic and the Sharks-Kings Stadium Series game. With the news that HBO would not be producing 24/7 this year, many fans were extremely upset, and this news, while good that there will be a series to show the in’s and out’s of a hockey team and season as they prepare for a big game, still doesn’t make fans very happy due to the fact that many, including myself, have no idea what Epix is or how you can even watch it in the first place. ESPN says it will be available for everyone online, but nobody is sure how just yet. However, here are some reasons why this news is excellent for hockey fans everywhere.

1. Familiar Face

The president of Epix is Mark Greenberg who worked with HBO and producer Ross Greenburg was a senior executive that worked on the HBO 24/7 series between the Penguins and Capitals, which in my opinion was easily the best 24/7 so far. This is excellent news because both know how the series is made and both know what people want in the 24/7 series, and they can use that knowledge to help produce the best hockey mini series they can.

2. Not Lacking Money

One of the main concerns of people is that Epix is nowhere near the production levels of a company like HBO, which is a fair concern. Basically everyone has HBO and most people are extremely baffled about what Epix is. However, Epix is a collaboration company of some of the biggest names in Hollywood that make some of the biggest films. Meaning they aren’t exactly lacking money and they can certainly make production values great.

3. Uncensored

Now, this is not confirmed, but according to their Twitter page, they show the movie The Wolf of Wall Street on their channel. Now, I have seen The Wolf of Wall Street, and trust me, there is no possible way they can make that movie TV friendly unless they keep the swearing in. Now this may not be a big selling point for a lot of people, but the fact that it can be uncensored means you get full uncensored access to what the team is feeling. You get all the emotions, excitement, chirps, and coach speeches, without anyone having to hold anything back. That’s a huge part of having a strong series. You shouldn’t have the teams hold anything back. Let them be comfortable and say what they want. It keeps the teams calm, and it gives us a much better program.

4. The Sharks Are Going To Be On TV

!!!!!!!!!!!!! We get to see what Thornton says to Pavs and Patty during the game! We get to see the Sharks in the same way that fans have seen the Capitals and the Flyers and the Leafs. Even if Epix ends up making the worst series in the world, the fact that the Sharks will be one of the center points is enough to get me to watch it immediately. But don’t fret Sharks fans or NHL fans, as I pointed out above, this series should be pretty spectacular, and I’m very excited for it. Can it be hockey season yet?
