For the Sharks, the loss against the the New York Islanders on Thursday was the first loss of the season. Luckily they fought hard and despite losing in a shootout, still gained that one point. Which at this point is the most important thing. Losing to an East coast team is the best route to go if you are going to lose. You won’t need to battle those teams for a playoff position and due to still getting that one point, the Sharks are still looking good.
The same goes for the Devils. They just received their first loss as well. The 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals was a rough one. Not only did the team take the loss, but former Sharks player Marty Havlat was also injured, and is labeled as questionable for the game this evening. After a check by Capitals defenseman Jason Chimera in the second period, Havlat was cut and needed stitches on his upper lip and bridge of his nose. It is being said that the injury isn’t too serious and that the Devils will take it day by day and base a decision off of how Havlat feels at the moment.
Here are the team standings pulled from the Sharks website:
Ranked sixth and seventh in the league, the two teams are very close in standings. The Sharks also swept the Devils last season in their two game series and are hoping to continue the tradition.
