Drop Four: San Jose Sharks Losing Streak Continues Against Calgary Flames
The San Jose Sharks drop a fourth game in a row, after losing to the Calgary Flames at home.
After a four day break, the Sharks looked to fix what was left of this November, but luck did not brush them this time around. Even with the extra rest, the Sharks could not convert shots into goals.
The first period was fast, something we haven’t seen from the Sharks in a very long time. Offensively, the Sharks were on the attack, throwing pucks at the Flames’ Karri Ramo, with the shots 11-9 in the Sharks favor. Both Ramo and the Sharks’ Antti Niemi blocked all shots. The teams were even in penalties in the first, with one minor from Sharks’ Brent Burns and Flames’ Brandon Bollig.

Scoreless into the second, the Sharks still kept control of the puck, with the shots totaling at 11-6 in the Sharks’ favor. Penalties were handed out to the Sharks’ Tommy Wingels and Joe Pavelski, as well as the Flames’ TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano and Curtis Glencross. But, with less than three minutes on the clock, Flames Jiri Hudler got his ninth goal of the season.
The Sharks, up until this point, had been performing admirably, but all of their chances hadn’t found soft spot around Ramo to slide into the net. Into the third period, the Sharks showed a stronger forecheck, advancing into the Flames’ zone with a lot more verve, but Ramo stood strong, shutting out the Sharks all the way until the end of the period.
Jiri Hudler scored his tenth goal of the season on an empty net. While the shots were 32-19 Sharks, the Sharks emerged with their fourth loss in a row.
