The NHL Draft is fast approaching and general manager Doug Wilson is busy trying to figure out what the San Jose Sharks are going to do when they are on the clock this Friday, June 26 in Sunrise, Florida with the ninth overall selection.

According to Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News, Wilson expects the Sharks to make their first selection in the top ten since they drafted Logan Couture in the 2007 draft with the ninth pick also. This would fall in line with Wilson’s mantra of the past couple season of adding more young prospects to restock the talent base in the organization.

While Wilson doesn’t anticipate moving San Jose’s first round pick, he did say the Sharks would be willing to listen to any potential offers. Here’s what Wilson had to say to Pashelka:

"“Now, when you get to that point, you sit on the draft floor, sometimes things get offered that come out of left field. Sometimes people move up a spot, down a spot. Our history speaks to — we’ve done all of those things. You listen in this business.”"

Also, Wilson noted there’s a “high percentage chance” the Sharks will acquire another draft pick prior to the draft. Currently, San Jose has eight draft picks and could use selections in either 2016 or 2017 to gain additional ones this season. The Sharks don’t have a third round pick at the moment after trading it for Tye McGinn last year.

Wilson indicated that Raffi Torres is on track in his rehab following a second surgery to repair his right ACL. Torres tore his ACL in September and had to get the surgery redone after it was infected. The Sharks missed Torres’ speed and physical presence in the lineup and are hopeful he can return at some point this season.

Torres is entering the final year of a three-year, $6M contract, and he’s appeared in only 16 regular season games during his tenure in teal.
