With the NHL offseason in full swing, there is still some San Jose Sharks news to catch up on. In case you missed anything from the past week, here’s the latest surrounding the Sharks:

– The Sharks held their third annual summer prospects scrimmage at SAP Center last Thursday, and Team Ricci defeated Team Marchment 5-2. Team Ricci was led by 2014 first-round pick Nikolay Goldobin who registered one goal and one assist.

– Speaking of Goldobin, after spending last season in Europe and with the Worcester Sharks, he’s looking to secure his spot within the San Jose lineup. Goldobin is a bright offensive talent who could provide an offensive spark to a Sharks offense which finished in the middle of the pack in goals scored last season.

– The Sharks announced the signing of 2015 first-round pick Timo Meier to a three-year entry level contract. Meier is a big, physical winger who could find his way quickly through the San Jose organization if he continues to develop.

– Another Sharks prospect who will be searching for an opportunity with the Sharks next season is defenseman Dylan DeMelo. DeMelo is likely one of four blue liners who will challenge for the sixth and seventh spots in the San Jose defensive corps.

– The San Jose Barracuda signed their first ever player to an AHL contract this past week in 6-foot-2 defenseman Gus Young.

– While defensemen Scott Hannan and Matt Irwin won’t be returning to the Sharks next year, take a look back at how both performed during the 2014-15 season.

– Finally, after the Sharks added 10 players to their organization during the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, who is now considered to be San Jose’s top prospect? The answer from one NHL expert might be surprising.
