The San Jose Sharks added another goaltender to their organization on Monday as general manager Doug Wilson announced that the Sharks had re-signed Aaron Dell to a one-year contract.
Dell, 26, will likely begin the season with the San Jose Barracuda, where he will battle with Troy Grosenick for the number one job. In 26 games with the Worcester Sharks a season ago, Dell posted solid numbers going 15-8-2 with a 2.06 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .927 save percentage. Also, Dell was 8-1-2 with a 2.84 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 12 games with the Allen Americans of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

In addition, Dell was pegged as the starter for Worcester in the Calder Cup playoffs, but he struggled in his three games, posting an 0-3 record with a 4.83 GAA and an .857 save percentage.
Dell, who is on the smaller side at six-foot and around 210 pounds, should present an intriguing competition with Grosenick, who is seen by many as the better prospect. However, Dell outperformed Grosenick last season with Worcester, so it should be interesting to note who is seeing a majority of the minutes with the Barracuda when the season commences.
While it’s unlikely that either Dell or Grosenick see time with the Sharks barring an injury, the duo should provide the Barracuda with a strong goaltending tandem. Currently, Dell holds two records at the University of North Dakota for GAA (1.79) and save percentage (.923) after spending three seasons there.
Dell was originally signed as a free agent by the Sharks on March 4, 2015.
