The San Jose Sharks announced a two-game series against the Anaheim Ducks earlier today that will feature prospects from both of their development systems. The “mini series” will see the rookies from the Sharks and Ducks square off against one another at SAP Center on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13.
The two-game series will be in the NHL-style format and it should provide an intriguing look at how San Jose’s prospects stack up against one of their main rivals. Also, this will give fans another look at some of the Sharks top young prospects following the development camp that was held last month.
Some of the players who could see action in these two games include 2015 first-round pick Timo Meier and 2014 first-round selection Nikolay Goldobin. It will be interesting to see if the organization decides to include Goldobin or if they decide to hold him out of the competition to focus on training camp with the San Jose Sharks and avoid a possible injury.

Other potential prospects include 2014 second-round pick Julius Bergman, 2014 fifth-round pick Rourke Chartier, and free agent signings Joonas Donskoi, Nikita Jevpalovs, Patrick McNally and goaltender Joel Rumpel. This will provide these players with a big opportunity to test themselves against a division rival and players that they could eventually be playing against at the NHL level.
The game on Sept. 12 will be incorporated with San Jose’s second annual Sharks Fan Fest. The Fan Fest will allow fans to meet multiple Sharks players, take pictures with the Shark head, current and former Sharks appearances and much more. Fan Fest will be held from 12-7: 30 p.m. and season ticket holders will be allowed early entry at 11 a.m. with an exclusive autograph session with players.
The rookie game will begin at 5 p.m. and the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Sharks schedule poster for the upcoming season. The details for the matchup on Sept. 13 have yet to be finalized, and more details should be available at a later date. This event will serve as a nice precursor to the season and get Sharks fans excited for the return of hockey.
Tickets to Sharks Fan Fest will be $5 and include admission to the rookie game as well. There will be some VIP tickets as well for $30 and tailgate tickets which will be $50. All tickets will go on sale this Friday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Sharks Foundation.
