Well, things didn’t go quite as well for the San Jose Sharks this past week as week one, but the Sharks are still tied atop the Pacific Division with eight points. San Jose headed to the East Coast for a four-game stretch that tested the Sharks in more ways than one.
After beginning the trip with two straight wins, San Jose floundered in their final two games against both New York teams as the Sharks were a battered group by the end.

– The San Jose Sharks went 2-2-0 last week posting wins over the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils, before dropping a pair of games against the New York Islanders and New York Rangers. Read more about each game below:
- The Sharks were dominated in pretty much every facet of the game against the Rangers as San Jose dropped a 4-0 decision at Madison Square Garden.
- In Alex Stalock’s first start of the year, San Jose couldn’t hold on to three different one-goal leads as the Islanders pulled away in the third period to hand the Sharks their first loss of the season in a 6-3 New York victory.
- While Martin Jones’ shutout streak came to an end at just under 235 minutes of action, the Sharks managed to defeat Peter DeBoer’s former team in the Devils.
- San Jose continued to roll along in the early going as Jones posted his second consecutive shutout, blanking the Alex Ovechkin-less Capitals 5-0 in a statement win for the Sharks.
– It was a tough week for the Sharks on the injury front, and it all started with an injury that Logan Couture sustained in practiced last week. The injury, which was a fractured right fibula at the ankle, will likely sideline Couture for 4-6 weeks. San Jose was also without the services of Joonas Donskoi, Ben Smith and Paul Martin by the end of the road trip as the injuries continued to mount as the road trip wore on.
– In response to the amount of guys that were out, the Sharks recalled 2014 first-round pick Nikolay Goldobin and Bryan Lerg from the San Jose Barracuda.
– Early on, San Jose was able to place some distance between them and their California rivals as the Sharks got off to a hot start, including wins over both the Ducks and Kings.
– Finally, the Sharks, when healthy, were able to utilize their depth in playing a four-line game where they could pressure their opponents. Their depth will be tested moving forward with the amount of players currently out of the lineup.
