San Jose Sharks Recall Nikolay Goldobin And Micheal Haley
Well, there it is San Jose Sharks fans, Nikolay Goldobin is back up with the Sharks as Peter DeBoer looks to shake up his lineup and jump start his offense. The Sharks and general manager Doug Wilson announced that San Jose recalled Goldobin and fellow forward Micheal Haley from the San Jose Barracuda ahead of tonight’s matchup against the Florida Panthers.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see Goldobin, San Jose’s 2014 first-round pick, recalled as the San Jose offense has sputtered of late. Currently, the Sharks rank 17th in the league in goals scored at 2.67 goals per game. While Goldobin just picked up his first goal with the Barracuda over the weekend, he’s known for his offensive skills and exploits. It’s the defensive end of the ice where he struggles, but right now, DeBoer is searching for any answers he can in trying to kick start this Sharks group.
Goldobin appeared in three games earlier this season with the Sharks, posting his first career NHL goal against the New York Islanders. It appears San Jose is looking for more scoring threats up front, and let’s see where DeBoer decides to slot Goldobin. Does he put him back up front with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski or does he slide in on San Jose’s second or third lines?

Haley returns to the Sharks and he could get a look on the fourth line here at the NHL level. Haley leads the Barracuda in scoring with four goals and six points, but he also provides a physical presence with 174 penalty minutes in 57 career NHL games.
Some sort of moves were expected as yesterday, the Sharks sent down defenseman Karl Stollery and Barclay Goodrow to the Barracuda. The name of note was Goodrow who had appeared in all 12 games for the Sharks, but had only registered three assists. San Jose is searching for consistency at this point, and it looks like DeBoer is willing to give anyone a shot at making an impression on him and forcing him to keep them in the lineup.
With the Barracuda not playing until the weekend, it will be intriguing to see if Goodrow actually plays at the AHL level or if the organization is giving Goldobin and Haley an opportunity tonight before the Anaheim Ducks come to town on Saturday. Stay tuned as I’m sure the amount of moves will only continue until Logan Couture returns.
