The San Jose Sharks enjoyed plenty of time off last week before returning to the ice to wrap up their five-game home stand. While the Sharks split those two guys, they had quite a good night on Saturday as San Jose exploded for seven goals in a 7-0 shutout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While the victory was a much needed one for the boys in teal, there is still plenty of work that needs to be done as they try to climb back into the playoff picture.
Here’s a look back at all the latest Sharks news from the past week in case you missed anything:
– After five days away from the rink, San Jose returned to SAP Center where they hosted a long–time nemesis in the Detroit Red Wings. The Sharks played a really solid game, but were unfortunate to drop a 2-1 decision as the Red Wings were able to find the game-winning goal in the third period. It was another frustrating defeat for San Jose at SAP Center, an occurrence that has been too frequent this season.

– The Sharks recalled Alex Stalock and Chris Tierney from the San Jose Barracuda after brief stints in the AHL to work on their games. Stalock was 2-0 in his two games, while Tierney recorded one goal and two assists in his three games. Also, Barclay Goodrow was named as an AHL All-Star after leading the Barracuda in scoring.
– Speaking of the Barracuda, they’ve surged of late winning four consecutive games and six of their last seven to shoot up into second place in the Pacific Division of the AHL.
– Earlier this week, the NHL announced their All-Star rosters for the game in Nashville and San Jose will have two representatives for the new three-on-three format. Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns were selected as All-Stars as Pavelski will be making his first All-Star appearance, while Burns will be making his third.
– Despite being named an All-Star, the Sharks might want to consider trading Burns if they continue to falter during the second half of the season. While it would be a very difficult decision, he could bring in a huge haul of prospects or picks if San Jose decides to go into a full on rebuild.
– As the halfway point of the season approaches, that means Raffi Torres will be eligible to return from his 41-game suspension next week on Jan. 14 when San Jose hosts the Edmonton Oilers. However, there is uncertainty from Torres on if he will be able to return to the Sharks lineup as he still battles health issues with his knee.
– Finally, the World Junior championships wrapped up recently so take a look back at how some of San Jose’s top prospects fared during the annual event.
