San Jose will begin their 2016 playoff journey at Staples Center on Thursday night.

After a year off from the postseason, the San Jose Sharks will return to the playoffs against a familiar foe. San Jose will kick off their 2016 playoff campaign by traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Kings beginning with Game One on Thursday night.

The Sharks and Kings will then play every other night from there on out with Game Two set to take place at Staples Center on Saturday night.

The series will then shift to the Bay Area for Games Three and Four on Monday and Wednesday night. The first four games are all scheduled for 7:30 p.m. puck drops, with Games Five, Six and Seven still to be determined if necessary.

This should be one of the most competitive series of the first round as these two teams match up well with one another. It won’t be an easy series between these two rivals as each will look to impose their will against the other.

San Jose took three of the five meetings (3-1-1) during the season series including their most recent back on March 28th when they used a three-goal third period to take home a 5-2 victory. The Sharks were able to get to Jonathan Quick this season as Quick lost all three of his appearances against San Jose after allowing 13 goals and posting a save percentage of just .845.

These two franchises have met on three different occasions in the postseason with Los Angeles winning the last two series, each in Game 7. Sharks fans and players will want to forget the last matchup when the Kings came back from a 3-0 series deficit to down San Jose in crushing fashion.

There will be plenty of storylines heading into this one and it should be a fascinating series to track moving forward.
