The San Jose Sharks are set to debut their Heritage Jerseys tonight when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets in honor of their 25th anniversary. Originally, the Sharks were only going to wear the jerseys on three occasions, but San Jose announced additional dates where they will wear what is essentially their throwback uniforms.

San Jose was set to wear the Heritage Jerseys tonight against Columbus, Dec.1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jan. 18 against the Ottawa Senators. Now, the Sharks added games for the throwback uniforms and they are as follows: Jan. 7 against the Detroit Red Wings and Feb. 11 against the Calgary Flames.

In addition, San Jose announced eight games where they will wear their “Black Armor” jerseys, which they’ve already worn on one occasion against the Kings this season. Those dates include these matchups:

It will be interesting to see what kind of response the Heritage Jerseys receive, as the black jerseys have had mixed reviews amongst the fan base. I don’t mind the black jerseys, but don’t think they should be worn if San Jose does make the playoffs.

Karl Stollery Recalled, Dylan DeMelo Sent Down

In other Sharks news, San Jose announced that they recalled defenseman Karl Stollery from the San Jose Barracuda and sent Dylan DeMelo to the Barracuda in a corresponding move. Stollery has appeared in six of the seven games for the Barracuda this season, posting one assist and a plus-two rating with eight shots on goal. Last season, Stollery played in five games with the Sharks at the end of the year with no points, a minus-four rating and six shots on goal while averaging more than 18 minutes of ice time.

Stollery will likely serve as the seventh defenseman with the Sharks, and this could be a situation where the organization wants DeMelo and Mirco Mueller to get regular ice time in the AHL as both have served as the seventh defenseman previously.

DeMelo has played in only two games with the Sharks after making the team out of training camp, but both those games came when Paul Martin was out of the lineup. I doubt that you will see Stollery in the lineup unless it’s in an emergency situation.

As mentioned previously, the Sharks return to action tonight when they will face the Blue Jackets as San Jose looks to win back-to-back games for the first time since Oct. 16.
